Constipation in Babies Home Remedies

Prune Juice

A great home remedy for constipation in babies is to add a little prune juice to your baby’s bottle and shake it very well.  As soon as your baby poops be sure to change the diaper.  Use warm washcloths that are soft instead of commercial wipes that have alcohol.  The alcohol will cause stinging on any rashes.  They will bleed and bring great pain to your baby and to you.

Here is an easy one – mix prune juice with regular formala.

***

Put a washcloth that is saturated in warm water right up to your baby’s rectum and softly massage this area.  This will cause the sphincter muscles to relax so the feces and gas can be released.  This is very true for babies that are breastfeeding.

***

Olive Oil

Put a little extra virgin olive oil on your baby’s pacifier and it will do the trick.

***

If your infant is constipated, take a sliver of Ivory soap and wiggle it just in your baby’s anus.  Hang on to it so it doesn’t get sucked in!  Be alert because the poop may come out with force while your pull the soap out.  My dad used this on me and he passed on the tip when I had my baby.  It works instantaneously!

Pear Juice for Constipation for Babies

Mix together two ounces of water and two ounces of pear juice.  Give this to your baby.  A warning:  it doesn’t take much.

***

Make a warm bath for your baby and add baking soda to the water.  About a half cup should do it.

***

When your infant is constipated, here is a home remedy that always works.  Make a small baby bottle with a half ounce of corn syrup and the rest water.  This will cause their bowels to loosen.

My baby was so constipated and I had tried everything.  She screamed when she tried to have a bowel movement but nothing would happen.  So just to try one last thing before taking her to the doctor, I got a q tip and put a liberal amount of petroleum jelly on the end of it.  I put this down her rectum for about a half inch and then twirled it around.  In about two seconds she exploded with four days of poop!

My two year old daughter has had awful constipation problems ever since I took her off breast milk.  Her doctor gave her a prescription for a laxative but there was no middle ground to this.  She was either a volcano or constipated and the stuff tasted so bad I could hardly get her to take it. So I found another pediatrician and she had me give her Mira-lax.  It is not an instant solution like a laxative but it got things working like they should.  She takes four grams twice daily but your baby’s dose could be different.  Your doctor will tell you.  What I like about it is that when I mix it with juice she has no problem taking it.

In ayruveda there is a good remedy for constipation in infants.  Soak a tablespoon of Isoop Goal (these are the seed of a flower) in a hot cup of water.  The liquid will become a little slimey and that is normal.  Give you baby one or two spoons of this when you feed your baby.  This is a preventative method for avoiding constipation and it has no side effects.  I have used this with my 7 month old baby and it works wonders!

I give apple juice to my baby.  She has a hard time pooping when I give her milk.  When she drinks apple juice, her poop gets nice and soft.
