Diarrhea Home Remedies & Natural Remedies

Goldenseal Root

Dried root of goldenseal can be purchased in capsules.  This perennial herb will put an end to many of the bacteria that cause diarrhea including E. coli.  The principal compound in goldenseal is berberine.  This is such an effective anti-microbial compound that goldenseal is often referred to as the herbal antibiotic.  You can take 2 or 3 capsules of 125 mg each day until the diarrhea goes away.  This is one of the more outstanding home remedies for diarrhea.

If your diarrhea is voluminous, you may want to resupply your body with electrolytes and water.  The electrolytes include chloride, potassium and sodium.  These are necessary to maintain the rhythm of your heart and also are critical in many other aspects of proper physiological functioning.  Low electrolytes can cause death by stopping the beating of the heart.  The good news is that it is easily amended by mixing 4 teaspoons of sugar with a half teaspoon of salt in a quart container of water.  You can stir in a little lemon juice, orange juice or the salt substitute which has potassium.  All during the day, work on drinking the whole quart.  Don’t increase the amount of salt or sugar or it may make you dehydrated.  This is one diarrhea home remedy that is extremely effective and very cheap.

If you are tending to a child that has diarrhea, you can give Pedialyte which is given orally and is especially formulated to replace the electrolytes in children.
