Eye Strain Home Remedies

Of all the home remedies for eye strain that I’ve come across; this one seems to be the best.  You need to take some fennel seeds and boil one half teaspoon of them in a cup of water.  Keep the boil going until the cup is down to one half full.  After you have done this; strain the mixture of fennel seeds and water and then use this as a wash for eye drops.  Put two or three eye drops in each eye and monitor the condition of your eyes throughout the day.  You may need to repeat this every few hours until the strain goes away.

If you are suffering from eye strain, you need to blink more and this will help with your condition.  For instance, if you are working on something and need to be at close proximity, blinking can help to alleviate the pressure on your eyes.  Also, when you are out in the hot and bright sun, or are out in the wind, don’t be afraid to blink more often.  When you blink, tears will wash over your eyes, and you are giving your eyes a break.  When people don’t blink as needed, they can cause harm to their eyes.

If you are having problems with eye strain, pay particular attention to the type of lighting you use.  While it’s often thought that dim light isn’t good to read in, it’s actually the contrast that is more important.  Your eyes will become strained if you are trying to read under light that doesn’t provide the proper amount of contrast.  The best light to use is a soft light that gives enough contrast, yet doesn’t present a glare.  When you are reading; never read facing a light that is reflecting back directly into your eyes.

If you suffer from eye strain and haven’t been satisfied with any of the remedies for eye strain that you’ve come across; then consider purchasing some inexpensive reading glasses.  This applies if your long distance sight is fine; but, you can’t read or see things well up close.  You can get a prescription from your doctor, or you can go to your local pharmacy or any drugstore and there will be a stand of reading glasses to choose from.   They usually range from $10.00 to $20.00.  These are available in every state, and are good quality and are impact- resistant.

If you spend a large amount of your day in front of the computer screen; you need to take breaks, and hopefully have gaps as long as two or three hours.  Too much time in front of the screen without a break can cause some serious eye strain.  If you can, even consider working with the printout of your screen.

To help avoid unnecessary eye strain consider this home remedy - darken the screen on your computer.  It is like having tiny light bulbs shining directly back into your eyes.  You don’t want or need to have the letters too bright.  You just need to adjust the brightness level down and increase the contrast level to counter this.  This way you will see well without the added strain on the eyes.

Too avoid eye strain when working on the computer, work in the shade.  Go to a local art supply store and get a sheet of heavy black cardboard.  Place the cardboard on top of the terminal and then fold the sides of the cardboard down over it and create a type of hood or black box affect.  This will allow you to turn the brightness level down and lessen the pressure on your eyes.

You can search all over the place to find home remedies for eye strain; but, the best one is the simplest one to do.  Close your eyes and rest them when you can.  If you are on the phone, you can close your eyes.  This can help relieve your eye strain and help you to feel better.
