Itching Natural Home Remedies, Treatments & Cures

Ice

This is a very simple and wonderful home remedy for itchy skin.  When my skin is itchy, I love to rub ice directly on the area.  This will instantly cool the area and relieve the itching.

Coconut Oil

A natural remedy for itchy skin that works wonders is coconut oil.  Not only does it soothe the irritated and itchy skin, but it also cools the skin as well.  This works well for an itchy scalp as well.  Simply apply the oil to your skin about four times every day.  This really helps your skin and keeps it healthy while soothing any irritation.

Evening Primrose Oil

Prescription medication (both oral and topical) that doctors traditionally prescribe for irritated skins and rashes will only worsen your situation.  Instead of paying money to the big pharmaceutical companies, try this great natural remedy.  Use evening primrose oil (in capsule form).  All you have to do is break the capsule open and apply the contents directly to your skin.  Do this right before you go go bed and leave the oil on your skin overnight.  You'll notice a drastic improvement in your irritation and swelling.  Unfortunately, this will not work well to treat the color of your rash, but it will help it to heal more quickly.

Tea Tree Oil

For a while, I kept getting these awful rashes.  I finally decided to turn to the natural remedy of using tea tree oil.  I applied the oil directly to the affected area and everything is healing very well.  This home remedy has worked very well for me, and can help to prevent (but not cure!) staph infections.

Cornstarch Home Remedy for Itching & Rashes

Cornstarch is a fantastic home remedy for rashes.  I like to apply the cornstarch directly to the affected area (like baby powder after a shower).  In a matter of minutes, you'll notice an improvement in the itchiness and irritation.

After suffering from an awful rash for almost a decade, I tried nearly every treatment and natural remedy there is.  Finally, I decided to switch laundry detergent brands.  I stopped using the commercial brand (loaded with chemicals, perfumes and dyes) and began using an organic and environmentally friendly brand.  This instantly cleared my rash.  While it's more expensive, it I don't have to spend money on rash treatments anymore!

Baby Oil Home Remedy for Itching

Baby oil is a wonderful home remedy for itchiness, irritation and skin rashes.  Simply apply the baby oil to the affected area at night before bed.  This will help with swelling, irritation and itchiness.

Baking Soda

Baking soda has lots of healing properties, and it is an especially wonderful natural home remedy for itchiness.  If you cannot reach the irritated area to apply the baking soda directly, you may want to add some baking soda to your bath water.  Simply add about one cup of baking soda to warm bath water and allow it to dissolve completely.  You should try to soak in the tub for about an hour (stay in for at least 30 minutes for feel the full effects), then air dry.  If you want to apply the baking soda to your skin directly, try to make a paste using about three parts of baking soda with one part of water and mix thoroughly.  Mix the water and baking soda thoroughly, then apply directly to the irritated area.

Oatmeal Home Remedy for Itching

Try adding a few cups of ground oatmeal to a warm bath to help with itchy and irritated skin.  This works very well for healing irritated skin.  Be sure that you don't use hot water, as this can actually cook the oatmeal and you'll find that you won't be able to drain your tub!  Also you can buy finely ground oatmeal called coloidal oatmeal and it is made specifically for putting in bath water.  Aveeno is one brand of this.  Oatmeal has been used for centuries as a home remedy for itching skin.

There are lots of folk remedies that say that lemon is a great natural remedy for itchiness, and this is absolutely correct.  Not only does lemon smell great, but it has lots of anti-inflammatory properties and anesthetic properties as well.  These help to reduce itching.  Simply squeeze some lemon juice on your skin and allow it to air dry.

Juniper Berries

There are many Native American tribes (Cherokee, Shoshone, Paiute) that would use juniper berries and cloves as natural remedies for itching.  Don't go into the wilderness looking for them, rather, you can find them at your local grocery store.  When juniper berries are combined with cloves, they make a wonderful concoction that helps to stop itching.  This is achieved through the eugenol in the cloves which actually helps to numb nerve endings.  To make this natural remedy work for you, follow this recipe.  Take about three ounces of unsalted butter and melt in a pan.  In another pan, melt about two tablespoons of beeswax, then add some ground cloves (about three teaspoons) to the beeswax.  Stir until thoroughly combined.  Once it has combined, add to the butter and stir well.  Once the mixture has cooled, apply to the skin.  This really helps to naturally heal itching.

Basil Tea

Make a homemade basil tea and apply it to your skin to relieve itching with a great natural remedy.  Basil also contains eugenol, and this is great for itchiness.  Simply boil a pint of fresh filtered water and add about half of an ounce of dried basil leaves to the water once it is boiling.  Keep the mixture covered so that the healthful eugenols do not evaporate.  Once the mixture is cooled, apply it directly to the skin for an amazing natural remedy for itchiness.

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is not only a wonderful natural remedy for sun burns, but it works equally as well for itching.  The same components of aloe vera that helps with the inflammation and blisters with sunburns are also the same ones that help to reduce swelling and calm itchy skin.  Simply snap a leaf off of a plant, then slice it down the middle to expose the inside of the leaf.  Rub the meat from inside the leaf directly on the itching area.
