Calcium and Vitamin D

My husband had a really difficult time experiencing leg cramps.  He saw an endocrinologist that recommended that he take two 600 mg Calcium + D vitamin tablets daily.  This has almost completely eliminated his cramps from occurring.  If he runs out of the tablets; he replaces them immediately or else the cramps return.

TENS Unit

Get a TENS unit for about 40 bucks at Overstock dot com. They also have them on Ebay but when I got mine that was the best deal. These things really work to relieve leg cramps or pain anywhere else for that matter.

Magnesium Phos

Magnesium Phhos x30 is one of the best homeopathic remedies for all manner of muscle spasms including legs. Some also spell it Magnesia Phos.  It will also help you sleep soundly at night and is good for charley horses.  It will calm anything spasmodic.

Pressure Point

If you suffer from leg cramps, there is a simple home remedy that uses pressure points.  If you start experiencing lower leg cramps, use one or two fingers and press firmly at the point or space between your big toe and the toe next to it.  This should make the cramp go away instantly.  If you can’t reach the foot of the legs that is cramping; then press the big toe of your other leg.

An old Chinese trick that works great as a natural remedy for leg cramps.  When you feel the cramp starting; use the inside or side of your forefinger and press firmly on the lower bone that is between your nostrils.  This always seems to stop the cramp dead in its tracks.

Diet as Natural Remedy for Leg Cramps

Bar of Soap

Here is a home remedy for leg cramps that dates back to England in 1066 since the battle of Hastings.  Simply put a bar of soap in the bed before going to sleep.  You can put the soap in a sock and place it under the sheets at the calf level or at the bottom of your feet.  I’ve heard many people talk of this and it really works.  I’ve also heard about rubbing your restless legs or cramps with wet white soap.

I drink a glass of fresh carrot juice daily and this really helps with my leg cramping.  The amount of potassium in the juice is the key.

At night when I’m awakened with my leg cramping; I jump up from my bed and start walking around on my cramping leg.  This will immediately cause my leg cramps to fade away.

Yellow Mustard

A very effective home remedy for leg cramps is to eat a few tablespoons of yellow mustard.  I know it sounds very strange; but, if you feel a cramp coming on, have some mustard.   You’ll be surprised at how well it works!  I don’t know why; but, it does!

Leg Cramps and Ginko Biloba

This is a treatment for leg cramps that works great.  After many years of suffering through leg cramps this home remedy takes care of them.  I now take 30 mg of Ginkgo Biloba daily.  I have also put on Blue-Emu cream whenever cramping started in the past.  The cream will stop cramping within five minutes.  The cream has emu oil, msm, aloe, and glucosamine However, after a couple of months of taking the Ginko bilobla; I no longer have leg cramps at night.

Orange Juice

When I used to have leg cramps at night; I’d try to walk them off.  Now, for many years I use a preventative home remedy approach for leg cramps.  Before going to bed, I drink a glass of orange juice and have a banana.  This is all very high in potassium and has greatly helped in the effort to control the amount of cramping I experience.

I used to get cramps at night and I would eat bananas every day to get more potassium and to try and stop the cramps.  That didn’t seem to work.  Finally, I noticed that I would get a cramp in my calf whenever I’d started to bend my knee.  Now, when I feel the cramp starting; I immediately straighten out my leg to stop the cramping.  This has proved to be a very good natural remedy for my leg cramps.

Salt

I have always gotten cramps in my legs at night and couldn’t figure out how to get rid of them.  I was told to try putting some salt under my tongue whenever a cramp arose.  I tried this and it actually works.  When I start to cramp up I put about a third of a teaspoon under my tongue and by the time the salt melts; my pain has gone away.

Try chamomile tea.  Take this tea 5 or 6 times every day for about 14 days.  In a pan put a cup of water and 3 teaspoons of chamomile flowers.  Boil the water and then cover the pot and let it steep for about 5 minutes.  Strain it and drink while it is still warm.

If you have some stairs, stand on a step with your toes with most of your feet hanging off the back of the stair.  Let your body weight push your heels down thus stretching the backs of your calves.

A great remedy for cramps in the legs is to drink raspberry leaf tea.  Do this 2 or 3 times a day if you are having leg cramp problems.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Blend together a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar, a tablespoon of calcium lactate and a teaspoon of honey in a cup of warm water.  Do this once a day as a leg cramps natural remedy.

Use a hot water bottle on a cramping area.

Take a supplement with calcium, magnesium and potassium to relieve consistent leg cramping.

Tiger's Balm

If you have cramping muscles, rub Tiger’s Balm or other camphor/menthol balm into the skin.  Then apply some DMSO to the area to make it penetrate.  DMSO is safe and is given intravenously to cancer patients as an alternative treatment.

Massage the muscles that are cramping with lavender, eucalyptus or rosemary oil.  When the massage is completed, put a hot water bottle on the area.

Lobelia

Get some lobelia extract and rub it into the muscles that are having cramps.

Hops taken as a tea or in capsules has a relaxing calming effect and is good for cramping.

Drink Water

For most any kind of cramping, the best thing is to drink the right amount of water to make sure you are sufficiently hydrated but you don’t want to drink so much you wash out all your minerals.  The secret to avoiding cramps in any group of muscles is zinc and magnesium.  If you do these three things you won’t ever get any serious cramps.  This is one of the best natural home remedies and cures for leg cramps.
