ADHD & Diet as Natural Treatment and Remedy

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder’s symptoms and characteristics are diagnosed through certain behaviors such as being restless, trouble focusing, impaired impulse control and distractibility. Sometimes children are over active as well. All of these symptoms may dramatically impact the child’s life at home, in school, in social situations and also with members of the child’s family and also peers. To add to this list we also find that many children diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder have possible discipline problems, learning disabilities, anxiety and possibly depression.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder can be a very complicated diagnosis and affects the brain. The part of the brain impacted is caused by environmental and genetic factors. Alcohol use and smoking while pregnant can lead to nutritional deficiencies. Watching too much television early in life and also lack of nutritional omega -3 fatty acids can increase the risk.

Diet as Natural Remedy and Treatment for ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder)

Inadequate nutrition is a serious concern associated with ADHD.

Ingesting large amounts of sugar has been closely associated with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and children. Children living in homes where they are not eating healthy diets have been directly linked to ADHD disorder.

Eating processed foods and sugar is very common in the western world. Our diet is a precursor for our children to develop many diseases and disorders including ADHD. Through research we have determined that there is a dietary pattern in the western diet that lends solid proof that many of our 14 year old children who have been diagnosed with ADHD could reverse this just through dietary changes alone.

There are many dyes, preservatives and additives in our food today that can actually increase hyperactivity in children There is documented research reflecting the direct link between these food dyes, and additives to hyperactive behavior.

Eating fruits or vegetables with pesticides also increases the risk of developing ADHD. It is much better and safer to eat organic produce as much as possible.

In order for a child’s brain to develop properly it is imperative they eat a diet rich in Omega 3 Fatty Acids. A child who is deficient in omega 3 fatty acids will suffer the inevitable consequences of a brain that is struggling to function at optimum levels yet falls short. The deficiency then results in various behavior disorders that are the brains only way of compensating for the lack of needed nutrients. Therefore it is essential that our children either eat a diet rich in omega 3 fatty acids or they take a proper omega 3 fatty acid supplement. Just increasing the omega 3 fatty acid intake in children diagnosed with ADHD will result in decreased ADHD symptoms.  The best source of omega 3s is flax seed oil.  These are some very effective natural home remedies and treatments for ADHD.
