Beta Glucan

What Is Beta Glucan?

Beta glucan is the most powerful immune system enhancer and modulator ever discovered.  This means beta glucan brings the immune system to optimum potency and it serves to control it or cause it to work in harmony with the rest of the body.  There is no other substance we know of that has such an incredible volume of studies done over the last 30 years to demonstrate this truth.

Taking beta glucan will allow you to live longer, healthier, less allergenic and resistant to infections from microbes and viruses.  The main reason to use beta glucan is to fortify your immune system.  It will be of great benefit to you if you have benign or malignant tumors.  It is effective in lowering cholesterol and triglycerides.  It helps to heal autoimmune diseases such as arthritis and lupus because it is an immune system modulator.  The effect of beta glucan on the skin is dramatic.  It helps to control blood sugar levels in the body and this is especially true of diabetes.   The scientific studies regarding beta glucan and these maladies is overwhelming.  You can read about them here What Is Beta Glucan and here Beta Glucan Research.  There is much more available on the web if you care to search.

What Is Beta Glucan?

Beta glucan is a polysaccharide with is a chain of glucose molecules and it occurs naturally in oats, mushrooms, yeasts and barley.  For many years scientists have understood beta glucan as a food component.  They understood that it is found in abundance in these foods.  However, it is very difficult to remove from these foods and purify it.  In or around the year 1999, laboratories managed to produce a beta glucan from brewer’s yeast and oats that is considerably less expensive than previous extractions.  In the year 2000 further breakthroughs occurred in extracting beta glucan from brewer’s yeast. Don’t be mislead by pyramid marketing companies charging exorbitant prices for their beta glucan claiming they alone have the secret recipe.  You can buy a quality beta glucan from youngagain.com.

How Much to Take

How much is a good dose for you?  Some studies have used large doses in test animals that would be equal to 7,000 mg (7 grams!) by weight of an average man.  Even at these enormous doses, no negative side effects surfaced.  As a rule of thumb, we can take 100 mg daily to enhance our immune system and control cholesterol.  If a serious medical condition is present such as cancer, AIDS or diabetes, take 300 to 500 mg each day.  Beta glucan is safe to take with other medications.  Tell your doctor about it.  It is merely a food extract that is found in abundance in many foods.  It has no known side effects even in very large mega doses.  It has a GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) FDA classification.

How Does Beta Glucan Work?

What makes beta glucan so powerful?  Research into this question is still ongoing and we don’t have all the answers.  Some things we do know.  We all have large white blood cells called “macrophages” which literally means “great eaters.”  These cells come in various types such as neutrophils and phagocytes.  These cells literally eat bacteria dead and dying cells, foreign cells, mutated cells (cancers) and other harmful invaders.  These are the most significant cells in our immune system.  These warriors of our immune system are strengthened by the intake of beta glucan.  When we take beta glucan, our immune cells are more powerful, more active and more efficient in attacking and devouring the cells and debris that should not be in our bodies.  This has been demonstrated in countless medical research studies.

What Is The Best Beta Glucan?

Barley beta glucan has never been available because oats are a less expensive source.  Oat beta glucan is used less than yeast beta glucan because this source produces a less expensive and more concentrated product.  The most expensive of all is mushroom beta glucan and the least desirable source for our money.  Yeast beta glucan is cost effective because of the millions of pounds of spent brewer’s yeast produced each year.  How about allergies to yeast?  Whether baker’s or brewer’s, yeast is in the top ten known food allergens.  However, beta glucan is so efficiently removed and only from the walls of the yeast plant cells, that any allergenic substances are probably totally removed or still present in such minute doses as to not produce an allergic reaction.  Beta glucan does not pose an allergic problem.

The following booklets are available as free PDF files on line.  They are packed with information on studies that have been done worldwide.

Because Beta Glucan is inexpensive it will never be introduced into mainstream medical practice.  Drug companies cannot patent it nor can they make any money selling it.  Instead, Interferon will be prescribed at a cost of about $30,000 a year for patients.  Beta Glucan is much more effective than Interferon as an immune system enhancer. The research that has been done on Beta Glucan is vast and overwhelming.
