Hay Fever Natural Home Remedies & Cures

No Dairy

A basic and very effective natural cure for hay fever is removing all mucus causing food out of your diet. Dairy foods are very high in fat and they also cause your body to build up a lot of mucus. I removed dairy from my children’s diet and now they contract less colds and have much less incident of hay fever symptoms. We replaced dairy milk with almond milk. I really did not expect my children to like almond milk at first yet they really liked it and use it on cereal and in meals. Almond milk is lower in sugar than rice milk and my children like it better than soy milk. You and your family will notice wonderful benefits from eliminating dairy from your diet. Not only will you suffer less from hay fever but you will also lose weight if necessary. Your immune system will become more resilient as well!

Chinese Medicine

Chinese medicine offers some helpful home remedies for hay fever. One such remedy I have tried is called Jade Screen or Yu Ping Feng San. It is reasonably priced and can be purchased in natural food stores that sell Chinese herbs and remedies. This ancient herb has been used for ages in the treatment of hay fever and other immune boosting remedies.

Bee Pollen

I have tried many natural home remedies and the best natural cure for hay fever I have found to work is eating honey and bee pollen powder on toast or bread about three months before the allergy season begins. I think this gets my body used to the pollen and helps to strengthen my immune system. I always buy raw honey and then bee pollen capsules and sprinkle the bee pollen over the honey on my toast. I only eat this once a day in the morning and it works.

Tea

My brother and his wife have been telling me for years that they drink green and/or black tea to control their hay fever. Well, I finally took their advice and found out they are right. I researched this information and also found that green and black tea block the over secretion of histamines in your body. Drinking either green or black tea daily is the best home remedy for hay fever I am aware of.

A quick natural remedy for hay fever is simply to turn on your air conditioner if you have one! Even turning on the fan setting on the air conditioner helps to filter the pollens from entering your home. It is best to keep windows close in the early morning and evening due to the higher pollen count at those times.

When allergy season approaches a natural cure for hay fever is to be sure to dry your clothes in a clothes dryer and not hang them out to dry outside; otherwise your clothes will gather pollen while drying and wreak havoc on your immune system.

We all have to mow our lawns even during the height of allergy season so I wanted to let other people know the home remedy for hay fever that I have found that works really well for me when I have to be outdoors. I use a face mask to cover my mouth and nose while I mow the lawn or work in the yard. These masks are inexpensive and easy to use and do wonders to prevent pollens and other irritants from entering your nasal and oral passage ways. Also, it is very important to shower and wash your hair after mowing the lawn or spending time outdoors because these grasses and pollens have collected in your hair and on your skin and clothing.

If you have serious allergies it is important to know that animal dander is something that could cause you trouble. Many people cannot be in the presence of dogs or cats due to allergies. If you do have animals I would suggest keeping your floor and furniture clean as possible and not allow the animal to sleep on your bed.

My husband and I have discovered a very useful natural remedy for hay fever. We have tilted the head of our bed upwards. I believe this slant of our mattress helps our sinuses to drain and not become clogged because of the extra pollen in the air. Works great for us!

I take an herbal tea bath each morning and evening when hay fever season is at bay. This natural cure for hay fever is also such a soothing and rejuvenating experience. What I suggest is preparing the tea ahead of time so that you can easily slip into the bath first thing in the morning and at the end of a long day. There are a number of different herbs you can choose for your tea. I use at least 2 of these herbs sometimes three at a time. Chamomile, eyebright, calendula flowers and lavender flowers are all wonderful. I take about one quarter of a cup of the herbal combinations and add 4 cups of water to the herbs. I allow this mixture to steep overnight and then in the morning I pour this mixture into a saucepan and I bring it to a boil and then quickly remove from heat and cover the pan with a lid. I then allow the tea to sit and cool off for fifteen minutes and then drain the herbs and pour the tea mixture into my bath. You can prepare larger quantities and store them in a glass jar in your refrigerator.

Coffee as Hay Fever Natural Remedy

Hot coffee has been known to be a good home remedy for hay fever. I have used 18 ounces of hot coffee which I sip on slowly. The coffee opens breathing airways and has even been known to help asthma sufferers. If you do have asthma I would suggest you call your family physician or naturopath and ask them for their professional opinion on coffee consumption as a natural remedy for hay fever.

If you are experiencing ongoing allergies I would offer the suggestion of cleaning your carpet. This is a sure fire natural remedy for hay fever if your carpet is dirty. Also make sure you dust and wipe down all counters. A clean house will help minimize all hay fever symptoms.

My skin sometimes itches bad due to my allergies. My natural cure for hay fever symptoms includes drinking a lot of water and applying lime juice to my itchy skin. Lime juice soothes itchy skin due to hay fever.

B Vitamins

B complex vitamins are a known home remedy for hay fever. B complex vitamins taken on a daily basis can also prevent hay fever attacks during allergy season.

***

Turmuric

My natural cure for hay fever is a tablespoon of turmeric powder, a glass of tomato juice and a little seltzer water. Mix this together and drink first thing in the morning on a day that is predicted to be a high pollen day. You will be pleasantly relieved you consumed this healthy beverage! I like drinking this mixture because turmeric is also know to be a natural anti inflammatory and immune enhancer. Turmeric is also a tasty spice to add to rice or tofu dishes.

***

Goldenseal

For years I have used goldenseal and echinacea as a natural remedy for hay fever. I take the tincture of both herbal remedies and mix a few drops of each into a glass of water. During allergy season this remedy will not only help alleviate your allergy symptoms but also enhance your immune system at the same time.
