I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in September of 2001.  I was told I needed to take a drug cocktail of anti-depressants and muscle relaxers and to join a support group.  I tried the drugs and shortly decided I had to find another way out of this.  Pain and disability became my constant companions. I had given a copy of the book “The McDougall Program – 12 Days to Dynamic Health” to my mother because she had atherosclerosis but it went unread and after some time she passed away.  I rediscovered the book while cleaning out her things.  I began reading the book and decided to give a change in diet a try.  Fibromyalgia is one of many auto-immune diseases that can afflict the body.  These auto-immune problems are most often caused by poor diet and most specifically eating animal proteins (meat and dairy).  I looked up Dr. John McDougall on the internet and decided to attend one of his 10 day programs where they give talks and cook all of your food for you.  On the eighth day I woke up at 5:30 AM and felt something was different. After a few minutes I realized I was pain free!  My hands and feet were not swollen.
