Nail Fungus Home Remedies & Natural Cures
One of the most widely used and inexpensive home remedies for nail fungus is to soak your toenails or fingernails in brown Listerine. Listerine contains benzoic acid, eucalyptol, ethanol and thymol. Listerine kills bacteria and is also an antifungal. Listerine acts very powerfully against Candida infections which is one of the four principal causes of onychomycosis (nail fungus). If Listerine can penetrate to the source of infection it can eliminate the fungus. Listerine is a commonly used home remedy for nail fungus.
Vinegar, which is acetic acid, is able to kill the dermatophytes that cause nail fungus. To use this remedy soak your toes or fingers in two parts water and one part vinegar for 20 minutes each day. Continue this treatment until the symptoms disappear or irritation of the skin around the nail appears. Apple cider vinegar has no advantage over distilled vinegar or other types of vinegar as they all contain acetic acid.
A really good home cure for nail fungus is an analgesic balm such as Tigers Balm. The menthol and other analgesic ingredients are antifungal. Also the oils will soften the nail when applied regularly over time. This softening allows the menthol to soak into the nail in kill the fungal infection. You can rub it into your fingernails or toenails at night and then wear cotton gloves or socks to keep it from getting on your sheets. Be sure to use cotton so that it will breathe and not allow moisture to accumulate.
Tea Tree Oil
When tested in a dish, tea tree oil was found to be very effective in killing all of the principal causes of nail fungus including trichophyton mentagrophytes, trichophyton rubrum and species of Candida. One over-the-counter treatment that has tea tree oil is Zetaclear.
Green Tea Extract
Camellia sinensis or Green Tree extract is another herb that has been shown to kill Candida glabrata in laboratory tests. It's effect on dermatophytes has not been demonstrated in clinical research and so it remains as an unknown.
Hydrogen peroxide is an astonishing natural home remedy for nail fungus, athlete’s foot and ringworm.
Some of the more popular over-the-counter home remedies for nail fungus are ZetaClear, Nail-Rx, H-Nail Fungus, and Fungavir. The ingredients in Fungavir are Undecylenic Acid, USP 20%, Manuka Oil, Melaleuca Alternifolia Oil (Tea Tree Oil), Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis Oil (Almond Oil), Aloe Barbadensis, Eugenia Caryophyllus, Jojoba Oil, Juglans Nigra, Citronella Grass, Propolis Extract, Menthol, Lavandula Angustifolia, Camphor Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate.
Vinegar and Tiger’s Balm
For some time I've had a nasty fungus on one of my big toenails. Each day I have been thoroughly washing my feet in soapy hot water. Then I soak my toes for about 30 min. in distilled white vinegar followed by putting a thick coating of Vick's VapoRub on the infected nail and also at the base of the nail. Then I put on a Band-Aid somewhat loosely so the grease won't get on my sheets. In the morning the Band-Aid comes off right before my shower. I have been doing this for a couple of months and the new growth coming in on the toenail is absolutely clear and pink!!
Sun Therapy Natural Nail Fungus Home Cure
A year ago my doctor informed me that I had toenail fungus. I have now gotten rid of it but this is not because anything my doctor did. He prescribed an ointment that you put on the toenail but I couldn't see how that would get the fungus which is under the toenail. The nail keeps any topical soaks or salves from getting to the fungus. If anyone says they soaked their toes in a solution that totally got rid of their nail fungus either has lost the toenail or the nail has become so crumbly that it allows penetration below the nail. My toenail did get crumbly at one point in time but it quickly came back to normal when I started using a sunlamp on it. I did some research on this type of fungus and it loves dark, moist warm environments with no airflow. If you take away this ideal growing environment fungicides are not needed. Wear sandals with no socks all the time. For some that is not practical, but try to do the best you can as often as possible. In addition to that put them under a sunlamp as frequently as you can. As little as 2 minutes twice each day will bring about a cure and the more you expose it the faster it will cure. If you don't have a sunlamp then keep your toes in the sun is much as possible. When you're using a sunlamp be sure not to look at it directly with your eyes. Expose all the nails on both of your feet to keep from getting a problem in other toes. Other persons that have suffered from nail fungus remark that my recovery was in record time and I must say the sun treatment is a lot less hassle than soaking in concoctions and salves. Also this is not to say that you couldn't also use some of the other treatments along with the sun treatment. In my humble opinion, this is one of the best home remedies for nail fungus.
For about eight years both of my toenails on my big toes were infected with fungus and I used to cover them up with nail polish. I tried a number of over-the-counter medicines and nothing worked. Finally I found something that is working for me. First I keep them cut off as short as possible and then every morning after my shower I clean them thoroughly with a brush. Next I put alcohol on the nails twice each day and don't use any nail polish. I wear open toe shoes or sandals so that the nails get as much fresh air and sunshine as possible. I am somewhat embarrassed for people to see my toes but the shame was worth the gain. I have been doing this for about five months and the nails are almost completely grown out and looking very good.
White Vinegar Cure
For four years I suffered with toenail fungus on one of my big toenails and the other one had it for two years. They were very yellow and thick. So my attack was to file them down as much is possible with an emery board and then trim them as close as I could. I bought a good big nail clipper. For the first several months I took cotton balls and soaked them in white vinegar and put them on my nails while I was brushing my teeth before bed and also when I was in the bathroom in the morning. After five months of this my nails have grown three fourths of the way out and I can say positively that it works.
Recently I got a bottle of Miracle Cure from the store. It was designed to heal up those yellow sick fungus infected toenails and I have to say it absolutely worked. I tried a lot of other home remedies and couldn't stay with anyone of them long enough to get results. This stuff started showing results in one week.
Cayenne Pepper Home Remedy
If you want a great natural home remedy for your nail fungus try cayenne pepper. Get a big bowl of warm water and put about 2 tablespoons of Cayenne pepper powder in it. Then soak your feet in this for about 30 minutes each night before you go to bed. Within several days you will start to see results. I tried to get my wife to do this for a number of years but she never wanted to do it. About a month ago she finally tried it and it started working really well. Now she doesn't mind wearing sandals.
I've had fungus on my toenails for about a year or more and so I started looking into different remedies and decided to try the Vicks vapor rub. Shortly after putting it on my nails it started to disappear. My technique was to trim the nail back as far as I could and then I took an emery board and filed on the tops of them to rough them up so the Vaporub could find its way to soak in. This works for me.
Listerine and Vinegar Nail Fungus Home Cure
This is a natural remedy I found for nail fungus and after using it for a week I can say its working! What you do is make a brew with half Listerine and half vinegar and spray this on your toes. Let this dry and put a menthol balm all over the infected nails including under the nail and on the cuticle. Put on cotton socks to protect the sheets night. Twice a day spray on the brew and then use the menthol at night while you're sleeping. I really couldn't be happier with the results!
Bleach Home Remedy for Nail Fungus
Here is a home remedy for nail fungus that works! What I did was use an emery board to sand the surface of my nails and then use an eyedropper to put a drop or two of straight bleach on each infected nail. Then let it sit for about 10 minutes to give it time to soak in. I did this for about two weeks and it was completely gone and hasn't come back.
