Fungal Infection Natural Treatments & Home Remedies

Garlic

A great natural treatment for a fungal infection is to mash garlic manually, or to try liquefying it in a blender.  Once the garlic has formed a paste, apply the garlic to the area that is affected with fungus.  A good way to apply the garlic is with a cotton swab or cotton ball.  While you can ingest garlic and include a large amount of it in your diet, you will heal a fungal infection much more quickly if it is applied topically.  Try this method about three times daily and continue to repeat until the fungus is gone.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is very effective when used to treat fungal infections.  Apply the tea tree oil directly to the skin.  If you have sensitive skin, then be sure to dilute it with a few drops of vegetable oil.  Apply the tea tree oil the affected area three times daily to see maximum results.  This is one of the very best natural remedies for a fungal infection.

Chamomile is an herbal remedy that works well when used both internally and externally.  Chamomile is wonderful in that it has natural antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, which can be excellent natural treatments for fungal infections.  To take chamomile internally, simply drink chamomile tea about once a day.  Once the tea is finished steeping, use the tea bags to apply chamomile directly to the area.  You can use chamomile as a very effective natural treatment for vaginal yeast infections.  Chamomile can also be used in a sitz bath.

Black Walnut

You can purchase a tincture (an alcoholic extract or solution) from your local health store.  For fungal infections, look for ones containing black walnut.  You can probably find other tinctures in the store that are labeled specifically for anti-fungal treatments.  These will likely contain tea tree oil, valerian and lavender.  Apply the solutions as directed.

Henna

You may be surprised to find out that dandruff is actually a fungal infection.  A great natural way to treat this common type of infection is with henna.  The varieties of henna that contain the most anti fungal properties are red henna (Lawsonia inermis) and natural henna (cassia obovata).  Red henna will likely change your hair color, but natural henna will not.  If you choose to treat your dandruff with natural henna, you'll notice that your hair will be much healthier looking, fuller and glossier.

Nail fungus is a very common problem that affects athletes and professional manicurists.  Nail fungus can be difficult to get rid of, but it doesn't have to be that way if you choose to treat it with the right natural remedies and treatments.  Perhaps the most fast and effective way to get rid of nail fungus is to create a solution with vinegar and three percent hydrogen peroxide.  Use equal parts of each so that it creates a 50/50 mixture.  Add this solution to the affected nail with a nail dropper or simply soak the nail in the solution.  If you have a very severe infection, you may notice a fizzing noise coming from the solution.  Continue to soak the nail until the fizzing stops.  A side effect of this treatment will be some slight temporary discoloration of the nail and a slight pinching feeling in the nail.  Both the discoloration and pinching feeling will subside with the infection.

A great home remedy and treatment for toenail fungus is to create a mixture with Listerine mouthwash.  While this is a very powerful antiseptic for your mouth, it also works wonders for fungal infections in the toenails as well.  There are ingredients in the mouthwash called euchalyptol and salicylate thymol that combine to form a very effective anti-fungal treatment.  If you have several nails that are affected with fungus, you can fill your bathtub with the mouthwash and an equal amount of a strong natural acid.  A good acid to mix with the mouthwash would be undiluted lemon juice or apple cider vinegar.  Adding the vinegar to the mouthwash helps to slow the growth of the fungus and will keep it from spreading.  If you have a severe infection, you may want to fill a bathtub and mix equal parts of the acidic solution with mouthwash and soak your feet.  Of course, this may not be always feasible as large amounts of each liquid will be necessary for this.  In that case, you can make a smaller batch of the mixture and simply paint the solution onto each affected nail.  You may also choose to soak a cotton ball in the mixture and the apply the cotton ball directly to the infected nail.  The cotton ball can then be covered with a bandage to keep it held onto the nail.  Keep the bandage on the nail for about 45 minutes and then scrub gently with the remaining solution when removed.  Continue to do this daily until you see results and the infection as subsided.  This can usually take about a week to see noticeable results with daily treatment.  It's especially important to keep in mind that any nail that has been affected with a fungal infection needs to be kept especially dry to avoid a repeat infection in the future.
